U.S. Beats Denmark 5-0 in Algarve Cup

FARO, Portugal - Heather O'Reilly
scored twice and the U.S. women's team beat Denmark 5-0 in the Algarve
Cup on Saturday. Captain Kristine Lilly, Abby Wambach and Natasha Kai
also scored for the U.S. team in its largest margin of victory in the
13-year history of the tournament. The U.S. team only needs a tie with
France on Monday to qualify for the March 15 final against Germany.






Chelsea Tops Tottenham 2-1 at Last-Minute

LONDON - William Gallas' last-minute goal Saturday for a 2-1 win helped league-leading Chelsea forget its midweek ouster from the Champions League by Barcelona.









N.J. Officials Seeing Red Over Name Change

HARRISON, N.J. - Red Bull's purchase of Major League Soccer's MetroStars is causing a stir in New Jersey. The team wants to be known as Red Bull New York, effectively disassociating itself from the Garden State, and that's not sitting well with state officials.









Galaxy Cut Costa Rica Visit Short

PARIS - Tournament favorite FC Barcelona will play Benfica on Friday in the Champions League quarterfinals while Italian champion Juventus meets Arsenal. 




 Los Angeles Galaxy President and GM Dies

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - Doug Hamilton, president and general manager of the defending MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy, died Thursday after an apparent heart attack while flying back from the team's CONCACAF Champions Cup match in Costa Rica.





 4 Arrested in German Match-Fixing Scandal


BERLIN - Four people were arrested in Germany's latest game-fixing scandal, with soccer authorities promising to resolve the case before the country hosts the World Cup.
